September Bird Calendar for the Omaha Nebraska area
By Babs Padelford
Fall migration begins in July with shorebirds. Shorebird
numbers peak in August, but some continue through September. Because of
fluctuating water levels, shorebird habitat may be in different
locations each year. Hawk migration begins in mid-September and
continues through October. Warbler migration begins in late August and
peaks in early September. Following is a partial list of birds that
migrate through eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, and approximate times
to see them. Be sure to call the Nebraska Bird Line (292-5325) for the
latest sightings and locations.
