The second part of the question is false.  My state has the bluebird for a state bird and my conservation license has a picture of on one it.

The Bluebird is also the state bird of New York. Maybe a few more states have this too as their state bird but can't recall now which ones they are.

Thomas Jefferson had a Mockingbird in a cage at Monticello for a pet.

Our local bird club, The Monticello Bird Club,  voted to have the Mocker as its logo. On March 11, 1989 the Club had a bird walk at Monticello and soon after the bird watchers arrived, we heard a bird greeting us.   Yes, it was the Mockingbird.  Guess he/she was welcoming us to T.J.'s mountaintop home.

The bluebird (unspecificed as to which one) is the state bird of New York (obviously EABL) and Missouri. The Mountain Bluebird is the state bird of Idaho and Nevada. The mockingbird is the state bird of Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Florida. My personal favorites are the Rhode Island and Delaware state birds, which are breeds of chickens.
