You ever notice how many things are named bluebird? As in bluebird
pie for example. Or as in the Bluebird bicycle. According to
Nostalgic.net the last Bluebird bicycle made by Elgin was in
1938. It is about time we had a new bike named Bluebird. Or
Cavity Nester maybe? What else is named bluebird.

actually, the chassis is made by bluebird, as you can see the
same name on motor homes.

The bluebird bus company is near Jack Finch in the Carolina's.
About 20 years ago Jack approached them with a nestbox and asked
for assistance so that he could help the bluebirds more. They
offered to make and donate all of the mounting strap hardware
for his boxes. So far they have donated in excess of 17 miles
of steel flat strap sheared, cut to length and with over 360,000
holes pre-punched in the straps over all of these years.
I just sat in the street waiting on twenty kids to pile on a
"Bluebird" bus and was sitting there thinking about
Jack and the thousands of baby bluebirds that have gone in and
out of nestboxes hung with mounting straps donated by this bus
company. It gave me the TRUE feeling of "BLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS"
when I returned and opened up the letters about objects named
bluebird.....KK

Dear Wendell and friends,
I was in San Rafael, California last week to visit with Mike
Carabello (Carlos Santana's congo player), and while at the
studio the owner of the studio showed me his antique record
label collection.
Yes there it was a record label called Bluebird Records. The
title of the song on the label was "The Passing of Jimmy
Rodgers" by Ernest Tubbs. No address was listed on the
label, but it looked like it was from the early 1960s.
There is a new Bluebird Records that has children songs, but
I do not believe it is the same label.
Regards,
John Schuster

There's the "Bluebird Cafe" here in Twang Town where,
as their brochure says,"you can listen to Nashville's rising
stars while dining in an intimate setting". They sponsored
the publishing of a great brochure on Bluebirds for the Warner
Parks in Nashville. Steve

What else is named bluebird.
I think of the folk song/dance. Everyone stands in a circle
except for one person, usually a child. Everyone sings:
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window,
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window,
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window,
Oh, [something] I am tired.
Take a little girl [or boy] and tap her on the shoulder,
Take a little girl [or boy] and tap her on the shoulder,
Take a little girl [or boy] and tap her on the shoulder,
Oh, [something] I am tired.
As this is sung, the person begins to wind h/her way under
the joined arms of the people in the circle, and at the end,
taps someone on the shoulder; that person comes into the circle
and the original person stands behind the new person and puts
hands on the new person's hips. The new person then winds in
and out of the circle, choosing someone else to be the front
person in the caterpillar. Eventually there are only two people
left, and the song ends.
Well. This is how I remember it. Can anyone correct my version,
or remember what the name of the person is who is told "I
am tired"?

Hi all,
Here are two more bluebird names. There is a variety of lacecap
hydrangea (garden shrub) called 'bluebird'. Also in the early
60's, Datsun made a compact car called Bluebird 411, and continued
making this model after changing the company name to Nizzzn.

Dear Jim McLochlin,
it's by chance that I found your site on bluebirds. And I fear
my question will not belong to the FAQs. Nevertheless I really
do hope that you will be able to help me.
I am a curator in Die Neue Sammlung (The New Collection) a
State Museum for Design and Applied Arts in Munich, Germany,
and we have a streamlined-decade radio called "Bluebird".
Have you ever heard of this? I wonder, why this radio has been
called "Bluebird".
A journalist described it as "a brazenly unfunctional
15-inch circle of bright blue mirror glass ..." You can
see a picture of it on the following pages:
http://www.artnet.com/magazine/features/ABERcrombie/abercrombie8-15-1.asp
http://www.artnet.com/magazine/features/ABERcrombie/abercrombie8-15-00.asp#1
It was designed in 1934 for Sparton Corporation in Jackson,
Michigan, by one of the most important American industrial designers:
Walter Dorwin Teague (see e.g.
http://www.idsa.org/whatis/100yr/people/teague.html)
I would be very much obliged, if you could help me or give
me hint whom to ask.
Thanking you very much in advance, I send my kindest regards
from Munich/Bavaria to Omaha/Nebraska
